Online Guide – Map Tile Layers

Tumonz now supports multiple integrated high-definition image layers. These layers download maps (built up from ‘tiles’ which cover the current view) as needed, and cache these tiles for faster map display in the future. The short guide below explains how to get the most out of this feature.

Examples

  • MapTiler allows for 100k free tiles per month, while MapBox allows for 200k free tiles per month. It takes ~2k tiles to cover a very large farm (taking into account all the levels of detail), and since Tumonz caches tiles the free allowance will be sufficient even when for example a new farm was to be added daily.
  • You can check your account usage if you are interested (select Analytics in Maptiler, or Statistics in MapBox), but even in the rare case that you exceed the allowance it will simply start loading new tiles when the month rolls over. If you do get a lot of commercial value out of the tile layers and use them extensively, consider extending your account allowance with one of their well-priced plans.
